Description: Federal era (1789 to 1823). Unusual federal desk features unique inlay motifs of tassels and shield and very unique side sections of inlay next to the main drawers. Also highly unusual is the gallery piece on the top and 4 vertical drawers. Slant-top secretary desk lid falls forward on 2 pull-out slides to reveal well.
Interior has 3 pigeonholes and 6 small horizontal and 4 small vertical drawers. Below well, 4 graduated, full-length drawers. French feet meeting at sides to form skirt. Brass ring pulls likely not original but extremely old and seem appropriate.Drawers all work to use as is, but my hope is that there is someone out there that can fix this rare piece of furniture history to its former glory. Federal Style Inlaid Mahogany Secretary.
Height 50.25 inches, width 46 inches, depth 21.5 inches. Crack on right side of case, separation gap of case and feet in front, damage to inlay in same location, some tiny spots of inlay missing on small center door in the well; two small brass knobs missing. Gallery rail on top loose, chips to veneer, cracks. The chips that are missing on the skirt are in envelope for repair. Several address stamps stamped inside the drawers give clues to the location and previous life of the piece.
