We are pleased to be offering today this Victorian burl walnut carved pillar post double door Victorian bookcase dating from the 1870s to 1880s. It is in really clean condition. Someone has gone through over the years by sanding it down and re-varnishing it. It is in nice condition.
I dont see anything negative about it, except that the writing surface was not re-surfaced and it is the original old pine board that the felt go on to. This is a large size desk being 49.5 inches wide, 24.5 inches deep on the base, 31 inches high to the writing surface and approximately 90 inches high overall.
It has four adjustable shelves that holds plenty of books or collectibles. It has incise carving going down both sides of the bookcase.
The cylinder roll is beautiful and in really nice condition. It has raised burl panel on top of the cylinder.
It has the original hardware, carved burl walnut pillars and hand cut dove tail drawer underneath the pull out writing surface. The only thing I can see wrong is that the key hole cover is missing off the cylinder. It has a lot of burl on it, which is what people really look for in Victorian furniture. It has panel sides, deep wide molding and a nice overall desk. The bottom two doors reveal the time worn interior with a wooden shelf.
It is all original except for the re-varnish. There is some finish loss around the two wooden knobs that roll the cylinder up and down. Otherwise, it is a nice large Victorian bookcase secretary desk. 17965 Victorian Burl Walnut Cylinder Secretary Desk with Pillars.
