EARLY 19TH CENTURY CA 1810 ANTIQUE MAHOGANY BOSTON FEDERAL PERIOD LADIES TAMBOUR SECRETARY DESK. With our highest compliments and utmost pleasure we're delighted to offer for sale this fantastic, museum grade Boston Federal period ladies tambour secretary desk.

This is without a doubt one of the finest tambour desks we've encountered and are excited to bring this to market for our clients around the country. The tambour doors actuate with ease and are decorated with an ebony & holly string inlay. The same inlay can be found on each flanking vertical column with a very nice repeating geometric inlay on the top edge.

The flip down writing surface and the drawer faces are crafted from the best grade bookmatched mahogany veneers with a mahogany cross banding. The desk retains it's original embossed floral pulls, escutcheons, & lock on the top drawer.

The drawers are rich with tool & scribe marks with hand cut dovetails, cock bead molded faces, & hand chamfered bottoms. The desk stands tall on masterfully formed tapered & reeded legs transitioning into reeded columns. We intimately study American furniture all across the US in both private and public collections and many don't have a desk of this caliber.

This is one step down from a Seymour masterpiece which very rarely come to market and when they do they realize low - mid 6 figures. In the 18th & 19th century Boston was one of the biggest & busiest port cities in colonial America and was home to many skilled artisans including a number of institutional level cabinet makers.

The desk exhibits great proportions and scale and was clearly made by a top tier cabinet maker. The desk measures 37 1/2" wide x 19 1/4" deep x 46 3/4 tall. The height at the writing surface when flipped down is 31. Bay Colony Antiques is a dedicated group of New England antique dealers from Springfield, Massachusetts.
