We are happy to offer this beautiful 2 piece Federal mid 1800's mahogany veneer secretary desk and bookcase. The bottom section has a pair of flat panel doors with a single drawer above the doors.
The drawer front has an ogee shaped front with hand cut dovetails. Over the drawer is a sloped hinged top that folds open for the desk top. The surface of the desk area has a green felt which is most likely not original. On either side of the base is a curved column with a rectangular base and top.The sides of the base have recessed flush panels that match the design of the doors. The upper bookcase section of the cabinet has a pair of glass doors that are each divided into 3 vertical sections. The center sections have cathedral style tops, while the side sections have a 1/2 cathedral tops. Below the glass, each door has a beautiful raised panel. As with most of the wood on this piece, the doors really highlight the book-matched flame and figured mahogany veneer.
Below the doors are 3 drawers with ogee fronts, mirroring the shape of the bottom drawers. Like the bottom drawers there are hand cut dovetails. The drawer pulls appear to be newer period style replacements. The top of the upper section has a nice crown molding. Below the crown are 2 rows of a small molding with a flat section between. The Inside of the bookcase section are 2 adjustable wood shelves. Both of with a the upper and lower left doors have a flush edge bolt that secures the left door. The lock for the lower right door is functional and the key is included. The upper right door lock has no key and is NOT functional. There are some small missing sections of veneer, as well as some age cracks in the venner. The glass on the left door appears to be original. The right door has replacement glass that is held in place with small wood strips tacked in place. The cabinet has casters, but it is possible you would choose to display this piece without them removed.
