Below the rectangular drawers are light wood veneered small multi cubby hole drawers and 6 compartments to store letters. (Letter slots or opening are traditionally called pigeonhole) There is a a desk that opens out. This piece has aged very nicely, developing a rich patina and dark color. The divided glass doors are made up of 4 panes of glass.
The multitude of drawers and cubbies is iconic. Two large cabinet doors house a generous storage space at the bottom. You can use the shelf to store shorter items and taller items can be put in front of it (or behind if you slide the shelf forward). The entire antique secretary bookcase sits on bracket feet which are strong and provide a traditional look at the bottom.
There is a hinged writing flap that opens up, and paneled ends over two lower cupboard doors. The secretary features a beautiful woodgrain.It is really a stunning piece. There are some veneer chips typical of Empire pieces from this era, mostly around the crown moulding and around the drawer fronts.
