The lower portion is the standard fall-front desk whereby a pair of lopers can be withdrawn from either side and the lid rested on these for a firm writing surface. A gorgeous old brown leather covers the "rent" well, a hidden space that is revealed by sliding back the brown leather writing surface. The desk is organized with a series of pigeon-hole letter slots with scalloped valances over small drawers, all surrounding a single door with a matching "tombstone" paneling.
Beneath the desk is a pair of small drawers over a large pair of stacked drawers, these all crisply hand dovetailed as expected and fitted with period correct brass teardrop pulls. The entire desk is situated over four carved bun feet. Remaining incredibly sturdy and useful, pieces like this have a wonderful way of breaking up the monotony of a modern interior with texture, contrast and historical surface. 79 1/2" H x 38 5/8" W x 20 3/4 D.Condition Report: Crafted of 17th and 18th century elements, including beautifully patinated wood, period hinges, period correct replacement pulls, modern bun feet and gorgeous aged leather.
