A Chippendale secretary desk having a molded carved blind door bookcase top over a slant-lid desk case with four graduated drawers on straight bracket feet.Characteristic carved bracket feet and pleasant interior with a prospect door, hand dovetailed drawers with tulip poplar and pine secondary wood, with typical Connecticut River Valley nicely pitched pediment all relating to the Connecticut Valley area. Typical Restored type bracket base. Nice proportions and nice smaller width. Signed on back of top in period chalk, John Berry. Could have originated in either location. Backboards match on top and bottom. Old patinated if not original finish. Originally thought to be a marriage, but with original and matching backboards and size could have been made together.
