84 TALL & VINTAGE TIGER MAPLE, IN THE STYLE OF CHIPPENDALE. Drop- Front DOOR SECRETARY DESK. With an Upper Glass- Doored, 3- SHELF STORAGE CABINET with LOVELY DECORATIVE FRET WORK over A SLANT FRONT DOOR THAT WHEN OPENED BECOMES A LARGE WRITING SURFACE MID -SECTION WITH 17 INTERIOR CUBBY HOLES. ALL OF THIS IS ABOVE THE LOWER SECTION OF 4 (GRADUATING IN SIZE) LARGE SERPENTINE- FRONT DRAWERS.

THE SLANT-FRONT DOOR AND ALL 4 DRAWERS HAVE WORKING LOCKS. THE TOP CROWN IS A BEAUTIFUL CURVING BROKEN-ARCH OF HANDMADE MOLDING WHOSE TOP OPENING GIVES WAY TO A LARGE 9 TALL URN-SHAPED FINIAL. FOUR BALL & CLAW WOOD FEET. ONE KEY WORKS WELL IN THE BRASS ESCUTCHEONS OF THE 4 LARGE DRAWERS AND THE SLANT FRONT DOOR.

IT DOES NOT, HOWEVER, OPEN THE INNER DESK CUBBY CENTER CABINET DOOR. THE PREVIOUS OWNERS COULD NOT OPEN IT EITHER. THIS DESK BELONGED TO AN ELDERLY COUPLE WHOSE PARENTS BOUGHT IT WHEN THEY WERE ANTIQUE DEALERS. AS THEIR FAVORITE ITEM- IT STAYED IN THEIR HOME FOR YEARS OF ENJOYMENT AND PROUD DISPLAY. The Top Cabinet section is 35 Wide.

It is 8 3/4" Deep x 41" Tall. Inside are 3 shelves (2 in stationary position but can be relocated if you like). The glass door is decorated with very attractive wood fret work. The traditional slant front Desk section offers a writing space area of 34" Wide x 24" Deep.

The slant front door is supported by two automatic loafers that come out. From below while you use the large writing surface.

Inside are 8 vertical open storage cubbies (each 8" Tall x 3" Wide); 4 flank the 2 central vertical "hidden/secret storage spaces" that flank the center Cabinet Door. Unfortunately, this center cabinet cubby door lock does not unlock. The owners believe there is nothing in there. These 7 cubbies are above 5 curved-front small drawers. These drawers all are made with the tiger maple too. Below the desk Door are 4 substantial, serpentine- front drawers - ALL drawers have working locks.

All brass drawer pulls are decorative medallions with lifting brass hoops. The bottom section sits atop block feet. The 4 large lower section Drawers are 32 1/4" Wide x 17" Deep, have stylish serpentine fronts, lockable locks, and bail pull drawer pulls. From the top down heights of the drawers are. 3" Tall; then 3 5/8" Tall; then 3 5/8" Tall; and then 4 1/4" Tall.

Sturdy brass hardware hinges and lever clamps control the Top Book Case section Doors and the Slant Front door's opening and closing. All hinges and cubby drawer pulls are Brass. Overall in VERY GOOD, attractive appearance. Please study my photographs for a few minor spots or scratches - these are truly commensurate with age and hard to see inside where doors/drawers lightly and properly slide together; and on the writing surface where there are a few tiny flecks.
