Rare Antique English Oak Secretary Slant Front Gate leg Desk Fine Carved Face

  
This is a Rare Antique English Slant front Desk / Secretary with Gate leg Supports. The Piece has a wonderfully carved drop front with classic English carvings found often on old trunks and coffers. We spliced a few pictures together so we could detail the piece as well as the character this one has. Pic 1,2, &3 show the overall desk with a frontal shot of the nicely carved drop front exterior. Note the gate legs slip under the front of the desk nicely and have slots on the top stretcher to slide into to remain flush.

Pic 4 shows the front of the desk along with the wonderful carvings and the top with the darkened area, please note the wear to the piece as expected with age. Pic 5 shows The 2 gate legs swung out in preparation for the drop front to come down.

Pic 6 shows The interior, note the old splits and checks, also note the darkened areas, spots discoloration consistent with age, note the fine detail in the lower bracket of the upper storage area. Pic 7 again shows the interior. Pic 8 shows the carved front again note the old losses and checks, darkened.

Pic 9 shows the right hand side a split that we show in detail in the next photos. Pic 11 shows 2 pictures side by side of the old style pin hinge, in fine working condition. Pic 12 shows the lower legs and back side of the piece. This is a rare piece to find, nice carvings, nice detail, The piece is antique and does show wear from age and use.
