In two parts, the rectangular upper section with tambour slides flanked by simulated tambours opening to an interior fitted with an arrangement of drawers and valanced pigeon holes fitted to and set back upon the conforming lower case with hinged lid opening to a base lined writing surface supported by lopers centering a pair of aligned thumb-molded short drawers above a pair of serpentine tambour slides flanked by demilune simulated tambours, the case raised on square tapering legs with string inlay outlines. SIZE: 45" h x 38" w x 20-1/4 d.
CONDITION: Desk retains an old surface with overall minor cosmetic veneer repairs. Possibly slight loss in overall height. (legs) Brass hardware appear to be later period replacements. An old repair above lockplate on proper left tambour door upper section.
The lower inside shelf has been partially replaced and that section has been cracked and glued back together. Does not distract from the integrity of the piece. A very handsome piece of American furniture. Double tambours are very rare.
