HERE WE HAVE A R. HORNER drop front or slant top desk. It was passed down to me from my grandparents. My best guess after talking and showing pics to several furniture dealers that it is from the late 1800's or early 1900. It stands 41 1/2 tall..28" wide and 17 3/4" deep. It has 8 compartments and 3 drawers. The drawer pulls as well as the hinges is made of brass.
On the slant there is a beautiful inlay design with mother of pearl. On the back you see the label with the name R. As far as I can tell it looks like the wood is cherry which is confusing because most of r. Horner pieces are made of oak.I'm speculating that someone (maybe grandpa) may have re-finished this in cherry and did not do a very good job. Also some portions are bare wood and have not been stained. We can see ink stains on a couple of the drawers. I do not have the key for this. Legs are tapered and sits on metal rollers which has a brass piece above it. There are 12 pics to look at. Please ask any questions and I will do my best to answer. The item is located in zip code 12491 New York.
